THE WINE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Rh\u00f4ne Valley is famous for its wines, which vary in type, color, and style. Red wines, the majority, include grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Mourv\u00e8dre, Cinsault, and Carignan, often associated with “sun-drenched,” full-bodied, warm wines. White wines, meanwhile, are mainly made from Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc, and Clairette Blanche grapes. The region is also known for its natural sweet wines and a few sparkling wines, such as Saint-P\u00e9ray. Rh\u00f4ne Valley wines are produced across a variety of soils and climates, giving them a distinct and rich winemaking identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE PONT DU GARD<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A jewel of ancient engineering, this three-tiered aqueduct bridge impresses with its height of 49 meters, its length of 275 meters, and an extraordinary technical precision: the upper channel’s slope does not exceed 4 mm per meter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Built by nearly 1,000 workers over five years, the bridge was constructed without mortar, with the stone blocks (some weighing up to six tons) held together using oak tenons. The Pont du Gard wasn’t vital to N\u00eemes’ survival, but its flow rate (up to 40,000 m\u00b3\/day) symbolized Roman opulence and technical mastery, supplying baths, fountains, and gardens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its worldwide recognition was formalized with its UNESCO World Heritage listing in 1985.
